New York Leadership Council

The Leadership Council is a group of dedicated volunteers who support Upwardly Global’s work by fundraising, building awareness, recruiting volunteers and strengthening employer partnerships. The Council provides leadership opportunities for individuals interested in becoming more involved with Upwardly Global. Kunal Das, President
Kunal Das is a Bing Evangelist for Microsoft in New York, where he is responsible for evangelizing Microsoft's vision and strategy for search. He focuses on increasing perception, adoption, and engagement of Bing and adCenter by building relationships with the world's largest advertisers, strategic advertising agencies, and the wider digital marketing industry by serving as a thought leader and strategic partner. Kunal inspires Microsoft's most valued customers by sharing product roadmaps, introducing new initiatives, showcasing innovations, and helping key partners to connect the dots across Microsoft's search business. He enjoys listening to the needs of customers and the market to ensure the feedback influences the direction of Bing and adCenter.

He moved to NYC after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in Finance, and was the co-founder of a textbook store, Grade A Books LLC.

Kunal loves to travel, rock climb, cycle, and volunteer. He first became involved with Upwardly Global in the spring of 2007, helping with the search engine marketing efforts to launch Upwardly Global New York's office. He is an active volunteer, mentor, and currently serves as President of the New York Leadership Council for Upwardly Global.

Tammi Ling, Vice President 
Tammi Ling is an Engagement Manager in the Finance and Risk practice of Oliver Wyman Financial Services in New York, providing custom solutions for leading financial institutions covering all aspects of risk management, including risk and performance measurement, capital management and risk governance. She moved to New York after graduating form the University of Sydney, Australia, where she received a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance, Accounting and Econometrics and Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology.

Tammi is an active volunteer and elected Vice President of the New York Leadership Council for Upwardly Global for 2012. She became involved with the organization in 2009 as a mock interviewer and mentor, working one-on-one with job seekers to help prepare them for the job market. In 2010, she joined the Leadership Council to get even more involved with Upwardly Global, and was elected President of the New York Leadership Council for 2011.

Matt Elkus, Treasurer
Matt Elkus is a Corporate Development Associate at News Corporation in New York where he works on mergers and acquisitions, investments, divestitures and other corporate finance projects. Prior to working at News Corp, Matt worked for two years as an investment banking analyst in the Media and Telecom group at Citi. He moved to New York after graduating from the University of Michigan where he majored in business.

Matt became involved with Upwardly Global as a volunteer mentoring jobseekers and joined the New York Leadership Council to become more involved with the organization. He is excited to be a member of the Leadership Council and looks forward to working more with UpGlo going forward.

Sonya Imber, Historian 
Sonya Imber is an Associate in the Investment Management division of JPMorgan, where she is a member of the team responsible for Stable Value fund management. In this role, she specializes in client strategy and product management and development. Prior to joining JPMorgan, Sonya was an Associate in BlackRock's Global Client Group. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BA, cum laude in Economic History and Communication. Sonya began volunteering with Upwardly Global in 2009 and looks forward to continuing her involvement as a mentor and member of the Leadership Council.

Andrew Dolinsky, Social Chair
Andrew Dolinsky is a Private Equity Analyst at Centerview Partners, an independent investment banking and private equity firm that offers mergers and acquisition advisory, takeover defense, capital allocation, restructuring and divestitures services. The firm also operates as an operationally-oriented, financial sponsor for leading middle-market, consumer-focused companies.

Previously, he completed internships in the Real Estate Principal Investment Area (REPIA) at Goldman, Sachs & Co., and in the Business Technology Consulting Group at Deloitte Consulting. Andrew graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University with a BSx in Business Administration majoring in Finance and Real Estate.

James Stewart, Social Chair
James Stewart is an Associate at Court Square Capital, a private equity investment fund providing capital to middle-market companies. He moved to New York after graduating from Yale University where he earned a BA, majoring in Economics.

After becoming involved in Upwardly Global through various volunteer roles, James joined the New York Leadership Council to become more active in the organization.

Andrew Stewart
Andrew Stewart is a Vice President at Arrowhead Mezzanine (formerly Gleacher Partners), which provides capital in the form of subordinated debt, preferred stock and non-control common equity. Andrew has a BA in Economics and Spanish from Middlebury College, and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Leadership Council in 2011.

Gautam Malhotra
Gautam Malhotra is a Senior Consultant in the Retail and Consumer Products practice of Kurt Salmon, which delivers strategic and operational advisory to leading consumer and retail companies. Prior to working at Kurt Salmon, Gautam worked as an investment banking analyst in the financial institutions group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Gautam received his BA with honors from the University of Virginia, graduating from the Political and Social Thought distinguished majors program. Gautam began volunteering with Upwardly Global in 2011 and looks forward to continuing his involvement as a mentor and member of the Leadership Council.

Geoff Moore 
Geoffrey Moore is an Associate in the Restructuring group at Lazzard. Prior to joining Lazard, he was an Associate at Miller Buckfire. His transaction experience includes advising Liz Claibrone, Tilly's and Lion Capital (with regard to its investment in American Apparel).

Geoffrey has an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar, and an MA in International Studies from The Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a BA in International Relations from Brown University, where he graduated with honors

Grace Cheung
Grace Cheung is Senior Marketing Manager at New York City Economic Development Corporation, focusing on digital strategy for the agency. She was a 2009-2010 Coro Fellow in Public Affairs, a member of a competitive program that prepares diverse and committed individuals for effective and ethical leadership in the public affairs arena. Prior to that, Grace spent three years as a communications manager at the Women’s Refugee Commission.

It was through Grace’s placement at New York Community Trust (an Upwardly Global funder) during her Coro Fellowship that she became involved with Upwardly Global, assisting immigrant and refugee health care professionals. Later, she joined Upwardly Global – NYC’s Leadership Council, a group of dynamic young professionals in NYC that serve as fundraisers, volunteers, and network builders for the organization.

Margarita Capi
Margarita Capi is a Senior Analyst in the Securities and Finance practice of NERA Economic Consulting's New York office.  She provides economic analysis and advisory services to a variety of clients including governments, law firms and regulatory bodies. Margarita was born and raised in Albania - she moved to the US to attend Vassar College, where she received a BA in Economics and French.

Margarita became involved with Upwardly Global as a volunteer in 2009, regularly attending mock interview workshops and mentoring jobseekers. Since 2010 she has been an active member of the New York Leadership Council, where she initiated a partnership between her company and Upwardly Global and works on fundraising and outreach initiatives.

Mike Diamond
Mike Diamond is an Account Manager in the Media and Platforms division of Google in New York, working with agencies and direct advertisers to manage their online display advertising campaigns.  He moved to New York after graduating from the University of Michigan, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

Shortly after moving to New York, Mike got involved with Upwardly Global as a volunteer and mentor through his previous job at Microsoft, where he helped coordinate Upwardly Global mock interviews, resume workshops, cover letter reviews and networking practice events.  He is passionate about the mission of Upwardly Global and is excited to be a part of the Leadership Council.
