Wells Fargo ATM Advertisement Features Upwardly Global

Upwardly Global will be featured on the reverse side of ATM receipts in California in May and June, 2006. More than eight million advertisements feature a confident immigrant woman proclaiming, “I brought my career skills with me. Wells Fargo and Upwardly Global helped me put them to work”, followed by the Upwardly Global logo and website address. Wells Fargo customers can check the back of their receipt (one of every four receipts will feature the UpGlo ad) or you can view the advertisement on the UpGlo website.

Safeway and Genentech Partner with Upwardly Global

Bay Area giants Safeway and Genentech will partner with Upwardly Global. As Partners, Safeway and Genentech will have access to Upwardly Global's diverse and talented pool of Jobseekers. Safeway, headquartered in Pleasanton, is one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America and winner of the Catalyst’s 2005 Award for ‘Innovative Strategies, Winning Results’. Genentech, was recently voted the ‘Number One Place to Work’ by Fortune magazine.

Spotlight: Quality Control, Chemical Analyst; Eritrea

Hussein is seeking a position in quality control or as a chemical analyst with a biotech company or research institution. His recent experience in the laboratory included chemical testing and production. Prior to this, he taught and practiced clinical experiments and analysis at the National College of Nursing and Health Technology. Hussein holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Eritrea.

Spotlight: Legal Analyst, Assistant; Senegal

Mamadou would like to return to the legal profession as a researcher, analyst or assistant. In Senegal, he practiced international law, maritime and corporate law. In the United States he has worked as a translator, research and administrative assistant in New York. Mamadou holds a Bachelor of Arts Law and Political Science from the University Saint Louis in Senegal, a Master's Degree in Political Science and Doctorate in International Relations, from IEP in Bordeaux, France and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from UC Berkeley. Mamadou is currently employed at a copy shop in San Francisco.

Spotlight: Laboratory Technician, Researcher; Colombia

Angela is seeking a laboratory technician or research position at a biotech company. She is currently employed as a Clinical Research Assistant and would like to utilize her knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures and software applications. Angela holds a Medical Degree from the University of Antioquia and recently earned a Biotech Manufacturing Certificate from the City College of San Francisco.

Spotlight: Writer, Editor; India

Suchitra is seeking a role as writer, editor or communications specialist with a high tech, manufacturing or engineering firm. During her career with India’s largest manufacturer of pumping systems she managed communications, including a quarterly trade magazine with technical and marketing news for clients. Suchitra holds a Bachelor of Communication & Journalism from the University of Pune and a Masters in Business Administration from the Institute of Management Development & Research.

Success Stories

Jorge Salas, Peru, was hired by America California Bank as Vice President. In this capacity, Jorge will be helping the San Francisco based bank enhance its presence in the Latino community. Jorge was referred by Nina Maystrovich, a Credit Loan Officer and Upwardly Global Alum.

Xiaofeng Zhang, China,started as an Analyst with Café Press. Café Press, of Foster City, provides e-commerce services to manufacturers of a range of products. In her capacity as Analyst, Xiaofeng will utilize her sales, distribution and supply chain management skills to help Café Press optimize operations.

Polina Istomina, Ukraine, began at Landor Associates as a Marketing Associate. Landor is a leading branding and designing consultancy. Polina found the job via her Mentor, Terresa Christenson.

Volunteer Opportunity: Mock Interview Workshop

We are seeking volunteers to be Mock Interviewers on June 24th in San Francisco, from 9am – 12noon. After an orientation, Volunteers will conduct realistic practice interviews with our foreign-born jobseekers and privde them with constructive feedback and coaching.
