NY Employers Learn about Untapped Talent Pool from Upwardly GlobalOn Wednesday June 24th, Upwardly Global New York hosted its first ever Employer Breakfast Event. The inaugural Employer Breakfast showcased Upwardly Global's employer services before an audience of 38 employers representing 31 companies and a dozen jobseekers. The event allowed Upwardly Global to strengthen relationships with existing employers, as well as foster some new ones. Overall the event was a great success and directly resulted in three jobseeker interviews and a full-time placement! The event began with a thirty minute networking session, where employers and jobseekers mingled over coffee and breakfast while exchanging business cards. Following the networking session, Sherazade Langlade, Upwardly Global NY Managing Director, began her presentation that focused on the value that immigrant professionals bring to an organization and ways Upwardly Global can help companies effectively tap into this underutilized talent source. The presentation included an interactive activity designed to help employers see the different cultural norms that exist in other countries and understand that these norms may affect a foreign job applicant's communication style. Several jobseekers also shared their stories to provide employers with some first-hand experience of the type of professionals Upwardly Global works with. Carlos Monteagudo, a staffing manager at JP Morgan Chase also spoke about the success JP Morgan Chase has had with Upwardly Global. His first-hand experience offered insights into an employers perspective and success in tapping into an emerging pool of talent. As a direct result of the employer breakfast, two new employers, the Clutch Group and Action Against Hunger, have interviewed Upwardly Global jobseekers. Here are their stories:
The event was a big success as employers representing companies such as Bloomberg, Scholastic, Vault, American Express, and the Rockefeller Foundation were in attendance. Upwardly Global expects that this event will be the first of many Employer Breakfasts, as the organization continues to use different methods to engage and reach out to employers.
