Volunteer Role

Time Commitment

Role Description

Mock Interviewers

One-time
(can also be small team project)

Mock Interviewers take part in a half day workshop held quarterly on a Saturday morning.  After a brief training at the event, the Volunteer conducts a practice interview for 2 jobseekers.

Trainers

15 hrs
per year

Trainers facilitate or co-facilitate two workshops for jobseekers per year. Some workshop topics are: Job Search Strategies, Interview Skills for Immigrant Professionals, Networking for Immigrant Professionals, and Surviving the American Workplace. Upwardly Global provides the formal curriculum with trainer’s notes, handouts, and a 3 hour Train- the-Trainer session.

Advisors

5 hrs
per year
(flexible)

Advisors conduct informational interviews, over the phone or in person, and help jobseekers understand the intricacies of pursuing a career within a given industry sector or company in the U.S.

Mentors

5 – 10 hrs
per months.
(flexible)

Mentors work one-on-one with jobseekers, introducing newcomers to other contacts within the field or industry, inviting them to professional networking events and working with them on job searching and interviewing skills. Mentors attend a 45 minute orientation session and meet with their mentees once a month. Other contact is via phone and email.

*Mentors and advisors are matched with a jobseeker with same or similar professional background.
