Although I find my work as a financial analyst at NERA Economic Consulting to be both challenging and rewarding, my involvement with Upwardly Global these past few years has in many ways allowed me to grow more as a person. I have developed skills and built relationships, but more than anything, I have demonstrated to myself the extent to which my passions meet my actions. As an immigrant myself, I have always been interested in working with immigrant communities in the U.S. But it was my work as a career counselor during college that sparked my interest in helping people find jobs, and upon moving to the New York I quickly found Upwardly Global. The structure that the organization offers jobseekers and volunteers alike is simple and inviting; within minutes of my first session I created a bond with my mentee and found myself adding value to her job search immediately. She later found a position at Deloitte, and although the ensuing time proved difficult at times, in the end it was a proud moment for both of us. It has been a humbling experience to meet people who have given up promising careers in their home countries to face an uncertain job market in the U.S., and I feel honored to help them transition to the future they deserve.
