FAQ — Volunteers

You can determine how often you would like to volunteer, based on your schedule. Some volunteers participate twice a year, others once a month.

Once you have completed our volunteer application and orientation, you will have monthly opportunities to connect 1-on-1 with job seekers. These opportunities are mostly virtual, and can be in-person when it is safe to do so.

Our candidates come from over 150 countries and bring diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Approximately 75% of our job seekers are people of color, 50% are women, and 40% have STEM training. Our job seekers are immigrants, refugees, and asylees who are new the United States and have lived here for 7 years or less. They are fully work authorized.

No recruiting experience is necessary. Volunteers receive a thorough orientation before connecting with job seekers, and we welcome a variety of professional volunteers. Whatever your profession, your experience is invaluable and helps both our job seekers and other volunteers.

Yes. All of our candidates are fluent in English and eager to learn from your U.S. work experience. Additionally, Upwardly Global will provide cross-cultural volunteer training for you, and support your learning about the value of international education and work experience and immigrant inclusion.
