Dear Board/LC Members,

As we do scenario planning around the election and its vast implications for immigrants, refugees, our economy and jobs, we'd like to engage our closest community, you, in two ways this month:

  • leverage our 20th anniversary Gala to engage and activate new people with UpGlo

  • share useful analyses or introductions to think tanks/strategists as we plan for a post-election reality

Please see our October UpDATE below, which mentions some key pro-bono projects and efforts connected to building out communities of service at UpGlo. There is so much to share and we’ll send this to our full list of jobseekers, alumni, volunteers and supporters tomorrow as well.

Heartfelt thanks for your support!

Dear <<First Name>>,

We’re approaching a major election with important implications for our country, and Upwardly Global sits at a critical crossroads. In recent months, our job seekers have become increasingly vulnerable to job loss and scapegoating. Yet the case for their full integration into our workforce has never been more compelling.

We remain focused on the path ahead. We serve a pipeline of diverse talent who have expertise in many of the key industries uniquely positioned to support our fight against COVID and efforts to re-open and renew our rapidly shifting economy and make it more diverse and equitable. We’re committed to creating opportunity for this talent pool in new ways and with partners. Here are some current projects to this end:

  • Understanding essential skills and pathways for our job seekers: Our partners at Accenture are helping us understand and predict key job market trends across the country and identify the credentials that will help our job seekers, with their unique skill sets and experience, most efficiently qualify. Accenture’s analysis will play a role in informing industry-based communities in high-demand sectors.

  • Creating a more inclusive workforce: Friends at World Education Services, Altman Foundation, Accenture, and O.C. Tanner are helping us re-imagine the way that companies recruit and hire, and ensuring that immigrants and refugees are part of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Over the next two years, we’ll work with a cohort of 25-plus companies to build forward-looking products and strategies to effect tangible, positive change in our workforce.

  • Evaluating and measuring “soft” skills in our community: We’ve always known that soft skills – like  confidence, resilience, and teamwork – are a key ingredient to job seekers’ success in rebuilding professional careers in the U.S., and essential, transferrable skills. A pro-bono project with Deloitte is helping us to think deeply about this work and consider how assessments would allow us to tailor our support to gaps and enhance efficacy.

Upwardly Global believes that inclusion of immigrants and refugees is a vital step toward Building a Stronger America For All. Join immigrants, refugees and their champions for an inspiring virtual gala on November 12, celebrating our 20th anniversary.

Upwardly Global is turning 20 this year – and to celebrate, we're showcasing 20 stories that illustrate the many ways that immigrants are a critical part of our country. These are the stories of immigrants and their champions, from CEOs to activists to authors to our own job seekers and alumni. Follow our #ImmigrantsAreUS campaign on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The campaign runs NOW through November 12, the day of our Building a Stronger America For All virtual gala.

"Resiliency, to me, is the rare ability to take adversity and turn it into opportunity – a common thread I find in the stories of immigrants and refugees. But it is this resiliency – from fleeing conflict to serving on the frontlines – that will be essential to our ability to build an inclusive future where everyone can thrive. This is why Upwardly Global's work to bring more immigrants into the workforce is so important right now, and an effort we fully support." – Ebony Beckwith, Salesforce Chief of Philanthropy.
