Dear <<First Name>>,

We are inspired by the legacy of visionary leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and optimistic about the promise of our nation. Yet not two weeks ago, we saw brazen acts of violence in our Capitol, justified by a misled conception of “patriotism” that is diametrically opposed to the fundamental ideals of democracy, pluralism and respect for all. The danger unfortunately is not over.

This is not the moment to shy away from asserting our own vision for the nation  a vision that transcends political parties and offers a lifeline and hope. Diversity is not anti-American; Upwardly Global believes that it is our greatest and most prized asset.

Today, we ask you to take a few seconds to share some words of support for our immigrant and refugee members and for all of those who feel threatened or scared at this time. What is the American Dream to you; what did it mean for your parents or grandparents; how have you experienced it; or what would it take to get there?

Our work every day is about nurturing the potential and promise of all people, regardless of their country of origin, their racial or ethnic background, or their religious beliefs; and making life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness accessible to those who call this country home. Bringing this diversity and talent into our economy and society and creating genuine inclusion is also how we become stronger, and how we can navigate the many serious challenges in front of us.

The UpGlo family is made up of people who bring experience and ideas from across the world (you can find stats on the backgrounds of our jobseekers below). We are so grateful that you are part of it.

Let’s face hatred with a collective vision of something better, and then let’s work together to realize it.

Thank you,

Jina Krause-Vilmar
President & CEO, Upwardly Global

Policy Updates

Tomorrow, Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, as Kamala Harris breaks barriers as the first woman, Black American, Asian American, and daughter of immigrants to serve as Vice President. Yet however historic, this new administration will face myriad challenges, including the ongoing fight against COVID-19, record-level unemployment, growing social inequality, and political unrest.

Upwardly Global believes that the path forward for our nation involves centering the skills of immigrant and refugee professionals, along with other traditionally marginalized groups, to build an inclusive, equitable economic recovery. We offer five policy priorities for the Biden-Harris administration, with our commitment to serving as a resource to the transition team and new government in the coming weeks and months. We are happy to be working in coalition with the National Partnership for New Americans, Welcoming America, and other partners to position our recommendations in front of the Biden-Harris Transition Team.
