Upwardly Global partners with Unite Us to provide immigrants and refugees access to resources for restarting their professional careers in the United States

NEW YORKUpwardly Global, the first and longest-serving organization dedicated to rebuilding the careers of immigrants in the United States, today announced a partnership with Unite Us, the nation’s leading technology company connecting health and social care service providers. This national partnership will provide equitable access to resources and focus on offering immigrants and their families employment opportunities through a secure, coordinated care network.

Upwardly Global’s 20 years of experience assisting over 8,820 immigrants and refugees with employment, combined with Unite Us’s end-to-end social care solution, will support the inclusion of newcomers into the U.S. workforce. Upwardly Global partners with employers to help them leverage the immigrant and refugee talent pool to create more inclusive hiring practices and workplaces. Unite Us enables community-based partners to work across sectors to identify needs, such as employment, and refer people to appropriate resources. This partnership will expand Upwardly Global’s reach through a referral program that connects its clients’ community resources. Referral categories include employment, housing and utilities, health and wellness, and mental health.

“Our collaboration with Upwardly Global will help immigrants and refugees find sustainable employment opportunities within the United States,” said Adrienne Sherk, Unite Us’ Senior Director for Community-Based Organization Partnerships. “As part of the Unite Us network, Upwardly Global will have the ability to receive referrals for individuals seeking employment services, and they will have the option to send referrals on behalf of their clients. Unite Us admires Upwardly Global’s continued commitment to the immigrant and refugee population, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support their efforts across the nation,” she added.

Today, newcomers in the United States are more educated than at any other time in history; 45 percent of recently arrived immigrants have at least a bachelor’s degree. Yet more than two million immigrants and refugees who have degrees and professional work experience from their home countries face systemic barriers that leave them unemployed or working in low-wage jobs in the United States. Upwardly Global helps these individuals restart their careers and bring their skills and perspectives into the American workforce.

“We are excited to join the Unite Us network, to become a resource to their providers, and to get the word out about our program. We look forward to using this technology and solution to increase our reach to job seekers who badly need our help,” said Jina Krause-Vilmar, President and CEO of Upwardly Global.

By tapping into the national network of diverse resources Unite Us has created, Upwardly Global will increase its ability to provide immigrants and refugees with holistic, culturally competent care outside of the career coaching and interview programs Upwardly Global provides.
