Dear Friends,

We have the hit the ground running in 2019! I’m excited to share highlights from the beginning of the year in the latest edition of The UpDate

Women Rising
In honor of International Women's Day, our #SheGlo social media campaign celebrated women's power and potential. And on March 8th, we hosted an online discussion featuring four trailblazing alumnae from Venezuela, Iraq, Uganda, and Ethiopia sharing how they overcame barriers, navigated salary negotiations, and are balancing family responsibilities and careers.

We are all inspired by UpGlo alumna Belkina - who fled hyperinflation and food shortages in Venezuela to support her family back home. UpGlo is working with her to rebuild her career as dietitian, and we’re proud to share her story:

"[Getting a job] was like taking a deep breath, like a little breeze from the best beach on my island. The sky is the limit - just dream big!"
6,000 Alumni Strong

Do you know how long it took Upwardly Global to reach our first 1,000 placements? 11 years! Now, we are supporting 1,000 newcomers each year into the American workforce.

In early 2018 we hit 6,000 placements. Who are the 6K individuals whose lives have been changed by Upwardly Global?

50% are working in STEM fields

30% are refugees, asylees, or SIVs; 46% are women

Top regions our program participants represent: Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa

Building Jobversity

Jobversity delivers digital learning tools and expertise to newcomers and the organizations that serve and hire them.

We are building a community across the country of Ambassadors for Global Talent. Community colleges, workforce agencies, and local governments are learning about the unique barriers that newcomers face, and how to more effectively coach them to success!

On the Record

I appeared on The Business of Giving, discussing UpGlo's work in advancing equity & inclusion.

Mary Voelbel Lee, UpGlo’s Director of Employer Engagement, contributed to
WeWork’s Creator magazine: "Why Your Next Hire Should be a Refugee or Immigrant."

Upwardly Global is featured in a
syndicated newspaper column that has run in nearly 30 outlets across the country, including Newsday and The Chicago Tribune

Our VP of Programs, Rebecca Tancredi, is interviewed in a Chief Learning Officer
magazine article about cultural immersion in the workplace.

Why We're Talking About Celergo

They just recently hired two UpGlo alums as a Client Services Associate and an International Client Account Manager.
