#WeAllGlo on World Refugee Day, Charting the Future of Work and more
Dear Friends,
I'm pleased to share highlights from the last few months in the latest edition of The UpDate. Thank you for being a part of our work and community!
#WeAllGlo
In honor of World Refugee Day, UpGlo celebrates the resilience of the human spirit with our #WeAllGlo campaign. Thank you to everyone who is supporting our work to build stronger communities and economies. Because of your efforts we have raised more than $14K! As we are so close to our goal, donationswill continue to be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $20K.
We also featured our alum Andrew. UpGlo helped Andrew secure a job back in his field of engineering after his family was forced to flee their native Kenya for safety. “Hope was restored and our lives have changed, thanks to the training and guidance from Upwardly Global.”
Charting the Future of Work
Tech advances are changing the way we all work, and UpGlo is committed to building a future-ready workforce. We have received generous funding from Microsoft to enroll 40-50 job seekers (half of whom will be women) in the Microsoft Professional Program for Artificial Intelligence. This is an extremely fast growing and high demand field, and we’re thrilled to provide this opportunity!
Illuminate Opportunity with UpGlo!
Tickets for our Fall fundraising events in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago are now available!
Our New York and San Francisco Galas will celebrate the accomplishments of leaders in the immigrant communities and the impact of Upwardly Global’s work in the regions. Our #ChiGlo Reception will celebrate ten years of Upwardly Global’s work in Chicago with an awards program, food stations, music by the award-winning band Funkadesi and dancing. Join us to celebrate UpGlo and Illuminate Opportunity!
UpGlo is joining forces with the Chicago City College system and Chicago Public Schools to address the shortage of bilingual teachers – specifically for speakers of Spanish, Arabic and Urdu, languages spoken by many UpGlo participants. Connecting our job seekers to an existing Teacher Residency Program will enable them to work in the schools and earn a salary while completing requirements to become certified educators.
#SheGlo Success is...Nneoma
In Nigeria, Nneoma was an attorney and headed a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering women and girls. With UpGlo’s help, she just secured her first professional job in the U.S. as a client support services coordinator.
"At my survival job, I worked as a forklift driver and I probably would have settled for much less without Upwardly Global's guidance. Every time I participated in a networking session, I believed I could be more, I could achieve more. And now here I am...MORE!"
Building Connections with Reprise
Our relationship with Reprise Digital keeps growing - through Workplace Inclusion Workshops with hiring managers, their partnership with UpGlo on pro-bono digital marketing projects, and connecting us to other agencies in their parent company, IPG, through its Asian Heritage Group. We're excited to continue building on this successful partnership!
