Dear Friends,

We at UpGlo have a lot to celebrate this year! I’m pleased to share our most recent highlights in our latest edition of The Update. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

Realizing "Unlimited Potential"

"If you have power, and the freedom to make your own choices, you have a responsibility to do something good with it. My hope is for women everywhere to get the freedom and equality they deserve, and the opportunity to fight for the good things.”

UpGlo alum Lulu fled a forced marriage and gender discrimination in Saudi Arabia. With UpGlo’s support, she broke through additional barriers to rebuild a new life and career in IT consulting. We share her inspiring story in the latest video in our #SheGlo series, sponsored by Fondation Chanel, and accompanying blog post

What's Your Arrow?

“My arrow is my wonderful UpGlo mentor Tamar Frolichstein-Appel who always believes in me and supports my career growth. I'm blessed having an opportunity to work with Upwardly Global, and pay it forward by supporting this amazing organization.”

Ruslan took to social media to share his story of moving out of unemployment and becoming a medical case manager. Through the end of the year, our “#MyArrowIs” fundraising campaign will continue to celebrate how we can all be “arrows” in helping others achieve their goals. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters - including incredible alumni like Ruslan - we are 40% to our goal of $50K!

There is still plenty of time to participate: Start your
#MyArrowIs fundraising page and spread the word about the campaign - become the arrow in a newcomer’s journey!

And, as we head into 2020, please share UpGlo’s new video with your networks:

Co-Designing Equity in HR

Upwardly Global is committed to building a future-ready workforce that works for everyone - and to engaging employers as critical partners in realizing this vision. Speak Out for Inclusion

Mehmet fled political persecution in Turkey and sought asylum in the U.S. Obtaining a work permit was his lifeline to opportunity. UpGlo supported Mehmet in rebuilding his career, and he is now working as a data analyst. With the financial security of a professional job, Mehmet, his wife, and young son are thriving.

Our
Invest in Inclusion policy framework champions policies that empower newcomers to fully contribute their skills to our workforce and communities. Recent policy proposals threaten to put work authorization out of reach for people like Mehmet. UpGlo has voiced our opposition to these proposed policy changes and invite you to do the same. Read our comments on increased fees and longer wait periods for work permits, and submit your own comments here and here

UpGlo on the Record

We’re making headlines as we’re making change across the country. Read more about our work in recent news coverage:

California NPR affiliate KQED featured UpGlo in an article about brain waste, noting our work with employers to develop recruitment and hiring practices that recognize newcomer talent.

Crain’s New York Business published my letter to the editor, on how immigrants and refugees are poised to play a vital role in building a future-ready NYC workforce.

This article from Inside Philanthropy highlighted UpGlo as an inaugural WES Mariam Assefa Fund recipient, working to combat brain waste and build more inclusive hiring practices.

Fast Company and Engadget featured UpGlo as a partner in Lyft’s Job Access Program, which provides free and discounted rides to help people get to job interviews and trainings.

It has been a remarkable 12 months, none of it possible without our donors, volunteers, and amazing team. Thank you for your investments in UpGlo.
