Upwardly Global’s Afghan Response Coordinator, Rebecca Fishman, published an opinion piece on WRAL advocating to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act. The piece was co-authored with Imam Abdullah Antepli, Associate Professor of the Practice in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University studying the intersection of faith, ethics, and policy in higher education and the nonprofit sector.

“Our country, communities, and employers must remember that Afghans bring essential skills to our economy. Here in the Triangle, we have met hundreds of newcomers like Ahmad. Some have already found work at their skill level, while others are still struggling,” writes Fishman.

“As practitioners and advocates, we believe that our Afghan allies deserve lasting protection, and that our country must continue to invest in welcoming newcomers. Passing the AAA is an important next step; not only is it a moral obligation, but it is also critical to advancing inclusion, economic empowerment, and workforce development for Afghan newcomers.”
