With an uptick in migrations from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Latin America, Upwardly Global’s 2023 policy goals will focus on ensuring immigrant and refugee voices are surfaced in conversations about high-impact policy and policy implementation, particularly those that affect our community’s ability to obtain skill-aligned employment as well as lawful pathways to U.S residency.

In this document, we lay out our top four priorities, which are:

  1. Ensure that Afghan newcomers can stay and work in the United States through passage of the Afghan Adjustment Act or administrative action.
  2. Support high-impact federal guidelines that remove barriers for immigrant and refugee workforce inclusion.
  3. Ensure immigrant and refugee women are included in the parental leave and wage gap movements.
  4. Support healthcare licensing reform efforts in Illinois and New York.
