Upwardly Global President and CEO Jina Krause-Vilmar spoke with the Daily Mail about the continued legal limbo faced by some 78,000 Afghan newcomers who arrived after the U.S. withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

“‘We have a long history in the United States of using humanitarian parole in the context of previous US troop withdrawals and emergency evacuations,’ Jina Krause-Vilmar, CEO of Upwardly Global, a non-profit that helps refugee professionals find work, told DailyMail.com.

Her group estimates enacting the Afghan Adjustment Act would be about half the cost of adjudicating the some-36,000 asylum cases of Afghan refugees hoping to stay in the country.

‘We estimate that would cost the US government $64 million to adjudicate the 36,000 Afghan cases,’ she said. ‘Passing the AAA which would only cost the administration $34 million to process.'”
