Tony Goncalves is the Founder of The Evrose Group, a growth strategy and transformation advisory firm serving global media, technology and entertainment executives and businesses. At the heart of the firm’s offering is its commitment to elevate and scale Portugal-based businesses, founders and leaders, an ambition rooted in Goncalves’ desire to integrate his decorated career in media with his Portuguese heritage.
Goncalves has been at the forefront of the media and entertainment industry’s evolution, a sector experiencing profound generational shifts. As a senior leader for media and technology powerhouses WarnerMedia and AT&T, Goncalves is recognized for pioneering many of the industry’s most significant advancements in streaming, market defining product launches and driving transformative change amid complex business integrations. He’s also successfully operated several early-stage media businesses, steering them to billion-dollar valuations and acquisitions.
Goncalves launched The Evrose Group to bridge Portugal’s burgeoning arts, media, and technology sectors with business opportunities in the U.S. His passion for building and leading teams is fundamental to the culture and offering at The Evrose Group, as he leverages his unique experience, strategic acumen, operational know-how and extensive network to deliver immediate impact to clients.
As a testament to the mission behind The Evrose Group, Goncalves orchestrated a partnership earlier this year between New York-based Tribeca Enterprises, leading Portuguese broadcaster SIC, its streaming platform OPTO, and the City of Lisbon to initiate the first-ever European edition of the Tribeca Festival. He will serve as executive producer of Tribeca Festival Lisboa, which marks a significant milestone for Portugal’s burgeoning arts and tech community and for Tribeca Enterprises as it expands internationally.
Goncalves provides strategic advisory services to several companies, including Portugal’s leading media entity Grupo Impresa and Porto-based, next-gen media measurement company MediaProbe. His expertise extends to working with private equity firms on identifying growth opportunities and scaling businesses. Additionally, he serves as a senior advisor at Media Link, a consulting arm of United Talent Agency, where his insights continue to shape the future of entertainment and technology.
Prior to The Evrose Group, Goncalves served a dual role at WarnerMedia as Chief Revenue Officer of WarnerMedia and CEO of Otter Media. As Chief Revenue Officer, Goncalves led the development and launch of HBO Max, the company’s direct-to-consumer streaming video service. He also oversaw $20 billion in annual revenue across the company’s advertising sales, networks and streaming app distribution, home entertainment and content licensing divisions, representing the portfolio’s brands and intellectual property including HBO, Warner Bros., CNN, tbs, TNT, Cartoon Network and adult
swim. Under his leadership, the organization experienced significant revenue and employee sentiment growth despite a large organizational people transformation, strategy pivot and industry headwinds. As CEO of Otter Media, he steered the portfolio to profitability resulting in multiple exits. Japanese Anime streamer Crunchyroll, acquired by Sony for $1.2 billion, and Reese Witherspoon’s media company Hello Sunshine, acquired by Blackstone for over $900 million.
Earlier in his career, Goncalves was an AT&T Officer and Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, where he oversaw a $14 billion capital budget and led the industry’s pivot into streaming video with the 2016 launch of DIRECTV NOW. He held several leadership positions at DIRECTV before joining AT&T. He founded the company’s digital products organization, spearheading the shift to streaming video and oversaw several M&A processes. Prior to his digital leadership role, Goncalves oversaw a growing $4 billion P&L and drove 25% of the company’s annual subscriber acquisitions.
He serves as a board member for Upwardly Global, a New York-based grassroots organization that assists skilled immigrants in building careers in the U.S. In 2016, he received their award for “Outstanding Leadership.” He has also been named to the Variety “500 Entertainment Leaders & Icons” for three consecutive years. Goncalves also serves as a mentor at the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at his alma mater, Iona University.
