Steven Ostler brings to Upwardly Global a distinguished track record of executive leadership, entrepreneurial innovation, and mission-driven service. As Interim CEO, Steven draws upon decades of experience in both the private and nonprofit sectors to guide the organization through its next chapter with clarity, purpose, and deep dedication to the communities it serves.
A Harvard MBA with a foundation in finance and strategy, Steven served as President and CEO of The Boyer Company, one of the Intermountain West’s largest commercial real estate firms, where he led transformational growth from 2001 to 2011. He later channeled his expertise into venture investment and small business development, chairing Banyan Ventures’ Investment Advisory Board and founding 49 Capital to acquire and grow small manufacturing businesses.
Steven’s career shifted toward social impact in 2013 when he co-founded One Refugee, a nonprofit dedicated to helping young adult refugees succeed in higher education and meaningful careers. Under his leadership, One Refugee supported more than 400 students, laying the foundation for lifelong economic mobility and civic contribution.
His deep commitment to refugee and immigrant communities brought him to Upwardly Global in 2019, where he has served as advisor, board vice chair, and now Interim CEO. In his own words:
“Upwardly Global is the leading organization in the United States dedicated to helping mid- and high-skilled refugees and immigrants continue and thrive in their professional careers. Our job seekers are talented, experienced, and ready to contribute meaningfully to the workforce and the economic growth of our country.”
Steven’s leadership is grounded in the belief that the work of Upwardly Global is not only necessary, it is transformational. He adds:
“As the needs of job seekers and employers evolve, so too does our mission. We are continually adapting to better serve those we support and those who benefit from hiring them.”
Known for building high-performing teams and navigating organizations through periods of growth and change, Steven is uniquely positioned to guide Upwardly Global at this pivotal moment.
Steven has also served in numerous civic and board leadership roles, including chair positions at Discovery Gateway, the School Institutional Trust Lands Administration, and the Land Trusts Protection and Advocacy Committee, among others.
