About Sonia Lin

Sonia is a longtime advocate for immigrant communities. She has worked in the public, non-profit, and private sectors as an advocate, attorney, and teacher. As the former deputy commissioner and general counsel at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, she helped implement groundbreaking policies and programs supporting immigrant access and empowerment, including the city’s trust policy and the largest municipal ID program in the country. After 20 years in New York, Sonia moved to Washington D.C. with her wife and daughter in 2020 and is excited about building community with Upwardly Global.
